Montana Suffolk Sheep Breeders Association
The Montana Suffolk Sheep Breeders Association was founded in 1981. Its mission is to encourage and provide instruction for its members and to promote and support the Suffolk Sheep breed and industry in the United States.
The Association is a nonprofit corporation in the state of Montana. Owners and breeders of purebred and registered Suffolk sheep within Montana are eligible to become members of the MSSBA. The Association also welcomes interested individuals and businesses within Montana.
The current annual membership dues are $25.00 for voting members over the age of 18. Junior memberships that do not carry a voting privilege are available to Suffolk breeders under the age of 18 for $15.00 annually.
Funds to carry out the goals of the Association are derived from annual membership dues, directory ads, and raffle ticket sales. Our annual meeting of the membership is held each year in Billings, Montana, to elect officers and conduct other Association business.Funds to carry out the goals of the Association are derived from annual membership dues
The MSSBA primarily promotes Suffolk sheep through advertising. It has been estimated that each member receives approximately $600 worth of advertising for the $25.00 membership fee ($15.00 for junior members). New members are always welcome.
In 2006, the MSSBA decided to further promote the sheep industry by awarding four $200 grants to be used for the purchase of a Suffolk ewe lamb or yearling ewe. This grant was for youths between the ages of 9 and 16 who are residents of the State of Montana. the Association is gearing up for 2007 and will again be awarding one $200 grant. The money generated from the annual raffle ticket sales will be used specifically for the ewe grant fund.
